Under our duty of operating and maintaining the Dubai Metro & Dubai Tram, Keolis-MHI is committed to smart and sustainable mobility by making a positive contribution to today's environmental challenges, such as the fight against climate change, reducing air pollution, improving energy efficiency and protecting resources in order to leave a positive environmental legacy for future generations.

In this regard, Keolis-MHI, a signatory of the “United Nations Global Compact”, and the “UAE Climate Responsible Companies Pledge” in support of the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategic initiative, has made the control of the environmental impacts of its activities a strong commitment of the Keolis-MHl's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy.

We believe that excellent environmental and energy performance is an essential component of being a responsible organization, and that it will assist us in protecting and improving the environment in the United ArabEmirates.

The strategic policy establishes the basis for achieving our objectives and works in tandem with our Environmental and Energy Management System. Our minimum standard is to comply with all environmental and energy-related regulations and standards that apply to our industry.

We expect everyone who works for Keolis-MHI to apply the following key principles agreed by the Executive Team to guide our work activities:

  • Meet compliance obligations arising from regulatory requirements, and other contractual or voluntary commitments to stakeholders.

  • Protect the environment by controlling the environmental impacts of activities.

  • Prevent pollution.

To direct our work practices, we expect everyone within Keolis-MHI to uphold the main objectives set by Top Management:

  • Improving energy and carbon efficiency.

  • Increasing the rate of waste diverted from landfill.

  • Controlling water consumption.

We are committed to:

  • Identify our significant environmental and energy impacts and manage these appropriately.

  • Implement and maintain a robust Environment and Energy Management System.

  • Prevent pollution and reduce the use of hazardous chemicals.

  • Reduce generation of waste and maximize waste recycling, recovery and diversion from landfill.

  • Reduce energy consumption and improve its efficiency.

  • Develop a climate change strategy to ensure that we fulfil our responsibility to protect our environment while also providing a resilient transport system that can respond to a rapidly changing world.

  • Engage ourselves with stakeholders where we share role, premises, or have interfacing practices to collaborate with all.

  • Enhance environment and energy knowledge through well-developed training programs.

  • Learn and benefit from our own and other stakeholders' experiences.

  • Promote sustainable procurement of goods & services as part of our environment and energy management principles

  • Ensure the availability of information and necessary resources to achieve objectives and energy targets

  • Support design activities that consider energy performance improvement.

  • Positively contributing to achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG’s).

  • Delivering smart and sustainable mobility.

To achieve this, we build, enforce and sustain a Management System based on the international standard ISO 14001 and BS EN ISO 50001. This system allows us to:

  • Identify, evaluate, and manage the aspects and impacts of our operations using a risk-based approach strategy.

  • Improve waste management performance, minimize waste production, raise recycling rates, & reduce waste sent to landfill.

  • Improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

  • Reduce use of hazardous chemical and improve their management (storage, special labelling, and spill containment of hazardous liquids).

  • Monitor our environmental performance through value-adding audits, set KPl's, and report & investigate incidents.

  • Maintain a culture of engagement learning and continuous improvement.

  • Enhance environment and energy awareness, and promote a positive culture through dedicated Awareness Programs for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Provide employees with the relevant competence and training to deliver our policy and ensure that the environment and energy efficiency built into their responsibility.

The Environment and Energy Policy declares Top Management's dedication for continuous support to the organization for the continuous improvement of our environment and energy efficiency through the providing of the necessary resources.
